A young widower faces his first Christmas alone with his son. Can he embrace the holiday spirit, or will he continue his Scrooge-like descent?
“Joyous Noel” is about a young widower named Jeremy Connell who’s facing his first Christmas after his wife’s death. Jeremy is a good dad, but he works all the time to avoid feeling the pain, anger, and bitterness that creeps just below the surface. This leaves his fifth-grade son, Noel, to fend for himself. Given the choice between doing right and wrong, Noel will usually choose to do right, only in the most horribly wrong way. Like other kids at school, Benji is afraid of Noel, but he’s forced to work with him to prepare for the Christmas pageant…and seeing Noel’s mission to care for a young homeless woman teaches Benji that there is more to Noel than all the trouble-making. As Benji gets caught up in his quest, he also finds himself in trouble, and their antics force Jeremy away from work and waken to the demons from which he runs. By the time the pageant arrives, Noel’s actions directly or indirectly inspire the Christmas spirit to spread throughout the whole town.
Largely influenced by the major themes of A Christmas Carol and The Little Drummer Boy, "Joyous Noel" is a rather simple holiday story that follows a misunderstood boy on his quest to do good.
